Unicorn Kisses
Another day, another unicorn food that I need to get my hands on! Last spring Polar released Unicorn Kisses, a limited edition flavor for April Fools Day, that literally broke the internet. Unicorn Kisses was released in a small batch and distributed only throughout New England. In typical Lexy fashion, I heard about the release a bit too late. I contacted Polar, who (happily) gave me a list of stores in my area carrying the product. Long story short, I was heartbroken and unable to acquire the bevvie that was sweeping the nation (and selling on eBay for $50+ a liter).
Fast forward to summer ‘17.... A friend of mine sent me over an article about an upcoming nationwide re-release of Unicorn Kisses, along with 3 additional mystical flavors. I screamed. I wasn’t going to let another release slip past me! After speaking with Polar customer service I was able to plan my attack on a local grocery store. I made the trek down to my local Big Y; athleisure wear and sneakers on ready for business. Grabbed my cart and dashed into the store. Much to my surprise, it was empty… and I mean EMPTY. No one was lined up waiting for it! There were easily 50 cases of each flavor just sitting out on the floor! What did I do? Loaded up my shopping cart FULL of the mystical flavors.
I was able to rope my roommates into conducting a full on taste test with me that week. There's actually hysterical video footage of this event, but I will spare the internet. Below are our thoughts on the mystical flavors!
Unicorn Kisses:
Smells like: Herbal Essences shampoo with a warm undertone of vanilla, Bath and Body Works Art Stuff roll on glitter
Tastes like: when you get shampoo in your mouth aka a sad morning
Rename: Sad Girl at the Club, I've Never Been in this Basement Before
Mermaid Songs:
Smells like: Fun Dip, White Airheads
Tastes like: berrylicious and bubbly
Rename: Ice Cream Man Dreams, White Airhead Vibes
Dragon Whispers:
Smells like: Fruit Loops, Gushers, Fruit Roll Up
Tastes like: plain seltzer with the absolute smallest suggestion of fruit flavor aka they ran out of fruit flavoring during production
Rename: Missed the Mark Berry, Summertime Sadness in a Can
Yeti Mischief:
Smells like: Tropical Fruit Roll Up
Tastes like: Dragon Whispers with a hint of tropical fruit flavor
Rename: Yeti in Paradise, I Thought I Paid for an All Inclusive
Overall, it was a fun experience but I hate to say it… the flavors did not live up to our expectations. They just all tasted the same; essence of some sort of tropical fruit flavor. Here’s to hoping that the next set of limited edition flavors doesn't disappoint!
