Not Above the Influence

Not Above the Influence

When the initial news broke about the upcoming Unicorn Frappuccino release at Starbucks, my heart couldn't take it.

I had a feeling this hype was going to surpass the Lilly Pulitzer x Starbucks S’well bottles that hit the market earlier this spring (#stillbitter that I wasn't able to score one). I wasn't wrong. I spent the release day scrolling through reviews, photos, and health advice from all of the overnight nutritionists that popped up on my timeline. I opted to skip hitting Starbucks on my drive home due to the dreary New England weather (aka if I couldn't take a decent photo for the ‘gram, did it even happen?).

I spent the next day feeling overly anxious about potentially missing the opportunity to savor this technicolor delicacy. I braced myself for the worst. Then it happened; one of my local Starbucks ran out of the unicorn blood. I was devastated. I called the other three locations in town and to my luck, one location had all of the ingredients to make my dream come true.

After acquiring the beverage, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect; I read a multitude of reviews online before the initial taste.  I haven’t had a frappuccino since middle school. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed it. My best description would be a mango creamsicle with a subtle tartness. I’m not a huge fan of sweets, but this really hit it out of the park for me. Could it have been the fun colors? Maybe.

Unlike Anthony Bourdain’s review, it was all of my favorite things in one sentence. What other unicorn food trends can you get behind? I'm super into the unicorn macaroons and rainbow bagels now. I’ll happily try a festive food trend any day.

xoxo, me
